Panerai’s latest celebrating the 36th America’s Cup

In the world of international yacht sailing, the America’s Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious trophies. Dating back to 1851, many heroic stories can be told about this race. Early 2021 the 36th Edition of the America’s Cup presented by Prada will take place in Auckland, New Zealand. During this race, Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa GMT is Panerai’s center piece.

One of the entrants in this race is the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team, proudly sponsored by Panerai. The connection is clear and makes a lot of sense. Panerai does not need any introduction and in their 150 year precision, performance and of course the sea have become essential parts of the brand’s heritage.

A Luminor in a modest case

But it not just ends with being an ambassador to the Italian Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team. Panerai has created the Luna Rossa collection: a growing range of distinctive timepieces, crafted with the exploits of the team members in mind. Panerai introduced the Luna Rossa line in early 2019 with the Submersible CarboTech, followed by various other iterations.

Latest in line is the PAM 1096 Luna Rossa, a Luminor GMT in relatively modest 42 mm case. Captured within the trusted Luminor looks, the true innovation is on the dial. A newly developed material called Scafotech gives the watch an instant “carbon-techy” look. Scafotech is an innovative and sustainable composite, made of the carbon-fibre residue collected from the Luna Rossa Teams yacht. In more plain marketing terms: You have a piece of the Luna Rossa yacht on your wrist..

The looks are entirely in line with the previous Luna Rossa models including an engraved caseback, indicating the long-lasting and strategic connection between Panerai and the Luna Rossa Prada team. Inside the PAM1096 beats the in-house developed Caliber P.9010/GMT automatic with a three day power reserve.

Limited to 250 pieces

Panerai limited the Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM 1096 to 250 pieces. If you apply for it now you’ll be just in time to accompany Panerai as official timekeeper of the 36th Americas’s cup presented by Prada which is scheduled until end of February in Auckland.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is 70. Time to dive into this iconic diver

When talking divers’ watches the Fifty Fathoms usually ranks up quite prominent in the discussion, probably right after the Submariner. And deservedly so, as the launch of Blancpain’s icon in 1953 marked the start of the modern divers’ watch. While the model was successful and adopted by many professional (military) divers, the quartz crisis caused […]
